You certainly don’t need to be a professional photographer to take advantage of a photography tour. All you really need is the desire to get some great shots of your vacation.

WHAT’S THE BEST CAMERA TO BRING?

The one you know. If you use the camera on your phone the most, then bring that. If you get out there with your point and shoot, bring that. If you have an SLR camera you’re comfortable with, bring that.

People that buy camera equipment for a special trip often end up more frustrated than pleased. It takes time to learn any new equipment.

GET TO KNOW YOUR FAVORITE CAMERA BETTER

Really start to push the limits of whatever equipment you have. Take a class online. CreativeLive.com has a wealth of classes on a variety of photography topics as does BetterPhoto.com, Lynda.com and Udemy.com and many more.

If you’re planning on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Yellowstone you’ll thank yourself for making the extra effort to sharpen up your photography skills before you come. Between the wildlife and amazing colors in the geyser basins, you’ll be amazed when you get back with so many great shots.

If you visit Cody/Yellowstone Country often, then you know the photographic opportunities that exist here. There are always more places to go, better light to find, or just a great excuse to practice your skills in this amazingly photographically rich environment.

But even if you aren’t here, just get yourself outside shooting where you are now.

RENT PHOTO EQUIPMENT

Many of those long lens photographers don’t really own those $10,000 lenses, they rent them. If you have an SLR camera, you can rent lenses as well at a reasonable price. Or you can rent the camera you’ve wanted to try out or an entire equipment set-up. At least one of our guides has used a couple of companies in the past with great results: Borrow Lenses and Lens Pro To Go.

These companies also have tripods and other photo equipment to rent and have helped many photographers take the leap to the pro status.

HIRE A GUIDE

We have a guide here who is known throughout our community as an excellent photographer who knows where to be at the right time to help you get the shot. Mack Frost not only is an excellent photographer, he knows the area well and had family settle here before Cody was even a town. He’s a great story teller and we’re thrilled he chooses to guide for us.

So get your camera skills dusted off and book your tour with us today.
